Under The Gun’s Head of Photography, Corbin Alvae, stopped at Saint Andrews Hall in Detroit to catch ‘The Juggernaut Tour.’
First show of the year and it feels great to be back! Did some great things throughout January that I was pretty proud of, so I’m glad to get back into the live photo grind again. As many of you may know, if you have read any of my past reviews, I have a tendency to have to deal with the shitty, cold weather before I go shoot an event in my home state of Michigan. First off, I got stuck at least two to three different times while trying to get to Saint Andrews Hall; that alone frustrated me. On top of that, a blizzard decided to start as soon as I arrived at the venue, which lasted all night, so my luck with bad weather just never stops.
Regardless of all that, lets talk about this tour.
I arrived as Wovenwar was setting up. If you don’t know already, Wovenwar is made up of members from As I Lay Dying and Oh, Sleeper. The band itself put on a rock solid performance throughout and I highly suggest catching them live given the chance.
Next up we had a band that I’ve been jamming a lot lately called Nothing More. I first came across Nothing More over the summer of 2014, when I heard their track “This Is The Time” on Octane radio. I instantly got hooked and as soon as I heard they were coming through, I couldn’t miss them. From start to finish, they were absolutely perfect. Frontman Jonny Hawkins is absolutely insane live and with the rest of the band backing him up, Nothing More puts on a really solid performance.
Lastly we had our headliner, Periphery. After jamming their recent double release in Juggernaut: Alpha & Juggernaut: Omega, I already knew that this group was gonna put on one hell of a show. Luckily, I was right. Opening up with their track “Icarus Lives!,” Periphery started their set with a nice bang that never let up throughout the entire time they commanded the stage.
Overall, this tour was perfectly put together. From the lineup to the production, everything was spot-on, and minus the shitty weather, it turned out to be one hell of a great night.
